Travel Chronicles

Hello Travelers!

Today I would like to discuss traveling with cameras & film equipment.

First, when you are packing for your trip, be sure to pack extra memory cards, and either a battery charger, or back-up batteries. If you choose to pack batteries, be sure that you have them securely stowed during the flights, and you must make sure that they are not near each other, or touching in any way. Batteries can shift and can create friction which can ultimately cause a fire; so always take caution when packing batteries. It you opt for the battery charger, be sure that you also bring a converter and adapter that corresponds to your destination. Any supplies or equipment that you need to capture your vacation should be brought with you. It is very difficult and in most cases, extremely expensive to try to purchase these items while traveling.

Any type of digital camera, may be stowed in carry-on luggage as the bags are electronically screened. The x-ray procedure will not damage the memory card stored with your camera, nor will it erase any data stored on the card. On occasion, you may be asked to turn on the camera by security personnel.

If you will be traveling with a film camera, you will want to take further precautions such as handing the camera and film (both exposed & un-exposed) directly to the TSA agent so that this does not go through the x-ray machines and wands. Taking film through the security machines may cause damage and the loss of your invaluable photo memories, so you will notice that the airports have warning signs posted. They may open each and every film canister, so to save time, you may choose to carry film canisters that are clear or transparent.

Since airline security procedures and regulations are changing on a day-to-day basis, so for the most current information you should visit the TSA website at www.tsa.gov.

Hello Travelers!

Eileen signed up for the 22-Day Heart of Europe Grand Tour. She was so excited, but also nervous about the different currencies that she would need to handle during her tour.
Because Image Tours provides detailed information in their Pre-Tour documents, she was able to learn all about the different currencies.

EURO: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, The Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain
Units of Money: 1 Euro (EUR or s) = 100 Eurocent.
Banknotes are issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500.
Coins come in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 Eurocent, and in 1 and 2 Euro.

ENGLISH POUND: United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales)
Units of Money: 1 English Pound (GBP or £) = 100 Pence.
Coins come in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 pence as well as in 1 pound and 2 pounds, and there are 5, 10, 20, and 50 pound notes, and rarely 100 pound notes.

SWISS FRANC: Switzerland
Units of Money: 1 Swiss Franc (SFR) = 100 Centimes or 100 Rappen.
Coins come in 5, 10, and 20 Rappen, and 1/2, 1, 2, and 5 Francs.
Banknotes are issued in 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 1000 Francs.

Even though Eileen will be visiting 8 different countries, she will only need to use three different local currencies.
When using her ATM/bank card in Europe, the machines dispense her cash in the local currency, so it was really simple to be prepared in each destination she visited.
She can even check the most current exchange rates by visiting www.xe.com.

The local currency is part of the different cultures that she will be visiting – it is part of the beauty of traveling!
