First and foremost is your passport. While you might not need it every day, it’s your most vital document when returning home. Make both paper and digital copies before you leave. Leave one copy with a trusted friend and keep another in your email or accessible on your device. If your passport gets lost or stolen, having your passport number, issue date, and expiration date handy can save the day.
Next up, something that’s especially useful if you’re planning to explore solo. As you head out from your hotel, grab a business card or ask the front desk for a pen with the hotel's name and address. This little trick can be a lifesaver if you get lost or need to direct a cab driver back to your hotel.
Keeping your itinerary handy is another key to staying organized and informed. Whether today’s city tour differs from tomorrow's mountain excursion, knowing what’s on the agenda helps you pack appropriately, ensuring you’re prepared with that light jacket or sweater.
For those on prescription medications, never pack all your doses in your suitcase. Always carry the first few days’ supply in your carry-on. Your suitcase won’t always be within reach, and in case of delays or lost luggage, you don’t want to be without your medications. Note the popular brand name if you use a generic one, as foreign pharmacies might not recognize the generic name. Accuracy is crucial when it comes to your health!
And finally, don’t forget the most important item of all: your sense of adventure!
Happy travels!
