We have talked in detail about the weather you will encounter in Europe, your luggage requirements, currency, etc.… Now it’s time to explore some of the most historic and beloved buildings, monuments & museums you will have the opportunity to set your eyes on during a trip to Europe.
Starting off this series will be the Imperial City of Innsbruck, capital of Tyrol and two-time host of the Winter Olympics.
There’s no better way to start a visit to Innsbruck then to walk Maria Theresa Boulevard, the most well-known street in Innsbruck. Named after Empress Maria Theresa, this lively street is home to St. Anne’s Column, the Chapel of St. George, and the Triumphal Arch. There is also an array of outdoor restaurants, cafes, boutiques and of course, shopping. The Imperial Church is also just a few minutes’ walk to the East where you can see the most prominent tomb memorial for an emperor in Europe.
Maria Theresa Boulevard stretches from the Triumphal Arch to the Old Town where the world-famous Golden Roof awaits.
Completed in 1500 the Golden Roof Museum is considered the symbol of the city. Luxuriously decorated with 2,657 fire-gilded copper tiles, all still original, it forms the roof of an alcove balcony.
The Golden Roof Museum offers information and entertainment in six rooms. Reach out and touch the past through a wide range of specialist multimedia techniques with state of the art interpretive activities and exhibitions. The museum will connect you to tales of siege and warfare in Tirol in medieval times and reveal the secrets of Emperor Maximilian I.
Surrounded by mountains and rich in history Innsbruck will leave you breathless.
Innsbruck is a destination on the Heart of Europe® Circle Tour, Heart of Europe® w/ London, Heart of Europe® Grand and the Germany, Austria & Switzerland Tour by Image Tours Inc.
